How to Send Money to an Inmate in the Berks County Jail

There are two primary ways to send money to an inmate in the Berks County jail: online and via mailed money orders. Online deposits are made through a third-party vendor. Individuals may make deposits on the vendor’s website or by phone. Online deposits are more convenient and faster, usually posting to the inmate’s account the next business day, unless it is a holiday.

Money orders, government checks, and payroll checks can be mailed directly to the Inmate Accounts Department at the county jail. The mail must include the inmate’s name, inmate number (which may differ from the booking number), and the sender’s name and address. When sending money by mail, personal letters or photos should not be included as they would be destroyed.

When depositing, individuals can choose to send the money to the inmate’s trust fund account for commissary purchases or to their telephone account. Money may also be sent to the inmate’s tablet account for entertainment purposes, but this is processed through a separate private vendor.

Depositing money in person is no longer possible as of March 18, 2020, because the Inmate Banker Kiosk was put out of service.
